Join the MOvement: A “Tash” for Movember

At one time or another, usually when gazing into the mirror, razor in hand, most blokes have asked themselves the question: “Will I look good with a moustache?”. From an outsider’s perspective, the answer is usually something like, “No, what the hell are you thinking…?”.

But the beauty of Movember – growing a moustache for men’s health – is that no matter how underwhelming our facial hair may be, it doesn’t actually matter. Because the funds and awareness raised can save lives.

Movember has been part of the annual calendar since the early 2000s and encourages us to put down the razor, sign up some sponsors and grow out our facial hair through November. Since the initial campaign, Movember has funded in excess of 1250 men’s health projects worldwide, with a particular focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide.

Of course, these health concerns don’t discriminate, they affect men of all backgrounds and age. The funds raised by the Movember campaign are directed to medical research, programs and treatments for early cancer diagnosis and detection, and for suicide prevention.

By raising awareness around cancer, family history and healthier lifestyles, as well as encouraging conversation around mental health, the Movember campaign breaks down barriers around men’s health and the reluctance to talk or to reach out for support when needed.

Cancer and mental illness touch every household in one way or another. Here is your opportunity to make a difference (and the entertain the family and friends with whatever appears on your top lip).
