Accredited Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid Training is an evidence based, action-focused course that equips individuals with the skills and confidence to approach mental health in their workplaces and communities. Completing an accredited Mental Health First Aid course through ADA Australia will give you eligibility to complete the relevant course assessment after course completion. Once you have successfully completed the assessment, you will receive a digital Certificate of Accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider.

This is a nationally accredited course delivered by certified MHFA instructors. The two-day format (delivered face-to-face, either as consecutive days or spaced out a maximum of a week apart) includes comprehensive training materials and the Mental Health First Aid Australia manual. Refresher courses are also available.

Yes. The course is delivered by certified Mental Health First Aid Australia instructors, and on completion participants are eligible for the assessment that leads to a nationally recognised Certificate of Accreditation as a Mental Health First Aider, valid for three years.

Two days (2 × 6 hours). The format can be delivered as two consecutive days or with a maximum one-week gap between days.

The Mental Health First Aid Action Plan, applied to depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, and substance-use crises. Participants learn how to provide initial support, when and how to escalate, and how to look after themselves while doing so.

Three years from the date of accreditation. To stay current, accredited MHFAers complete the MHFA Refresher course before their three-year anniversary.

Any employee, but particularly those in roles with frequent peer-support responsibility — HSRs, mental-health champions, HR, leaders, and frontline staff. Many workplaces aim for at least one accredited MHFAer per team or per shift.

Face-to-face only. The accreditation requirements and the depth of the practical content mean online delivery is not currently approved.
